Schubert II - Cello Quintet & Unfinished Works
Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 7:30 PM
The Morgan Library & Museum, Gilder Lehrman Hall
225 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10016
The String Quartet in C Major is Schubert’s most sublimely beautiful work. Nicknamed the “Cello” Quintet for the unusual choice of a second cello, the piece has a rich, dark sound that is artfully balanced with exuberant, life-affirming moments. The unfinished, one-movement “Quartettstatz” was the first quartet to reveal Schubert’s true genius in that genre.
The Morgan's Carolyn Vega and Ilona van Tuinen, curators from the Museum, will engage in a pre-concert conversation on the theme of unfinished artistic works.
