New from St. Luke’s Collection! George Manahan leads St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano, and tenor Paul Groves in Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde in a rarely heard arrangement penned by fellow Viennese composer Arnold Schoenberg.

Based on Tang Dynasty Chinese poetry, Das Lied von der Erde features the use of ‘Chinese’ motifs that were unique in Mahler’s output. The piece represents one of the great achievements in Schoenberg’s transcriptions catalogue and serves as an intimate reflection of Mahler’s love for nature and noble acceptance of life’s passing.
