Job Purpose

The Development Manager, Special Events and Development Operations, is a dual role to fuel Orchestra of St. Luke’s (OSL’s) mission through external special events and ensure the operational health of the Development Department, thereby bringing the beauty of classical music to tens of thousands of people each year.

The position is integral to the organization’s long-term business strategy. This role has responsibility for the oversight of a busy calendar and robust roster of events as well as administrative duties and processes of the department. The successful candidate will work closely with the VP of Development, President and Executive Director, and other stakeholders and outside partners to position the Orchestra for success. The candidate will report to the Vice President of Development and be joining an ambitious and successful four-person fundraising team that regularly exceeds annual targets.

Recognized as an industry leader in innovation, OSL’s mission encompasses three areas: Performance; Education/Community; and The DiMenna Center for Classical Music and is characterized by financial stability and the artistic flexibility. With regular performances on all the stages of Carnegie Hall, at Lincoln Center, City Center, and collaborations with Paul Taylor American Modern Dance, OSL has been hailed as New York’s “hometown band” (The New York Times). OSL is New York’s second largest independent orchestra and one of the largest chamber ensembles in the country with a budget of $7.5M and approximately 80 performance per season- nearly half of which are free. Its patrons and donors are drawn from New York City’s major performing arts philanthropists and well-established institutions.

OSL has emerged from the pandemic poised for growth, with strong finances, enhanced artistic vitality, a dedicated board, and more than 325 new donors. OSL’s ongoing Comprehensive Campaign recently passed $23,000,000.

Job Responsibilities

SPECIAL EVENTS

  • Execute and manage a variety of events, including;
    • Two major fundraisers The DiMenna Center Education Benefit and the Gift of Music Gala
    • Post-Concert Receptions at various locations
    • Donor cultivation and retention events as directed – 10-15 per year
    • Create annual events plan detailing calendar, financial goals and strategies for growth
  • Manage special events budget; monitor all income and expenses
  • With the help of Development Assistant, coordinate and track VIP ticket requests for all concerts. This includes being at concerts to greet patrons with other development team members.
  • Track responses to various concerts and events aided by the Development Assistant as needed.

OPERATIONS

  • Support the Vice President of Development and the Development team
  • Ensure proper record keeping is maintained and optimal tracking systems are in place
  • Oversee gift entry and acknowledgement process by the Development Assistant for all gifts
  • Responsible for integrity of data in database, Raiser’s Edge NXT.
    • Maintain the overall health of Raiser’s Edge NXT, including implementing updates, deleting duplicates, assuring proper coding is in place, etc.
    • Manage data entry, pull reports, analyze information in conjunction with Marketing and a soon to be implemented overarching CRM system.
    • Import and export lists for mailings and events with assistance from Development Assistant as needed
    • Keep informed of new processes and share information with colleagues.
  • Responsible for research of all individual donors and prospects and as directed, institutional donors and prospects
  • Oversee tracking of departmental finances including:
    • Weekly reconciliation of gifts and departmental expenses with Development Assistant
    • Reconciling departmental budget with finance monthly
    • Maintaining and distributing the weekly report
    • Assist in forecasting and other duties as assigned
  • Assist in financial audit process as needed
  • Provide support at concerts and other departments’ events as needed
