Job Purpose

The job purpose of the Senior Manager of Individual Giving, is to fuel Orchestra of St. Luke’s (OSL’s) mission through individual philanthropy, thereby bringing the beauty of classical music to tens of thousands of people each year.

This front-facing position is integral to the organization’s long-term business strategy. This role has responsibility for a portfolio of individual donors and oversight of a multi-tiered membership program and the planned giving program, The Lockwood Society. The candidate will be joining an ambitious and successful four-person fundraising team that regularly exceeds annual targets.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage a portfolio of approximately 50 individual donors, including conducting regular in person/virtual meetings and other communications
  • Develop and implement strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for individual donors of Membership (up to $1,000) and Symphony Circle ($1,000-9,999) segments, minimizing attrition and expanding the number of participants in the programs
  • Oversee activities and increase membership in The Lockwood Society, OSL’s Planned Giving group
  • Work with the President and Executive Director and Vice President of Development on Major Gift identification, cultivation and stewardship
  • Develop and manage a robust prospect pool using a new CRM solution that incorporates both the marketing and development databases; identify and cultivate new leads, deepen existing relationships and convert ticket buyers into donors
  • Build and manage the communication strategy for prospects and donors including designing appeals, brochures, direct mail, and email. Collaborate with Marketing to deliver a streamlined digital communication, incorporating key development strategies and messages as needed
  • Cultivate and steward high net-worth individuals at performances, donor receptions, and other events, and provide general event support
  • Collaborate with the Development Manager of Special Events and Operations to manage strategy for special initiatives and donor cultivation and stewardship events
  • Create and administer reporting and analysis of data including a moves management process. Analyze results to assist in making informed goals, plans and adjustments (to utilize resources and improve subsequent efforts)
  • Maintain database records, hard files, and e-files of all individual donor transactions and related development material
  • Write proposals and create supplementary materials for major gift solicitations, as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 4 or more years of experience in development with a proven track record of success in managing individual giving programs
  • Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Skilled in Word, Excel, and Outlook; experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar database

Competencies and Success Factors

  • Team player willing to pitch in where needed
  • Knowledge of the New York City philanthropic network a plus
  • Background and interest in being an advocate for classical music preferred

Working Conditions

Open office, some evenings and weekend events required, travel to meetings and events.

Compensation and Benefits 

Between $60,000 and $70,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits package is very competitive, including medical, dental, 403(b), employer-paid retirement plan, and vacation, personal, company holiday (11), and sick days.
