SUMMARY:The Australian Ballet Oscar©
DESCRIPTION:Choreographed by Tony winner Christopher Wheeldon (MJ the Musical\, An American in Paris)\, this New York premiere of the full-length work created for The Australian Ballet in 2024 features a sweeping score by Joby Talbot\, played live by the 47-piece Orchestra of St. Luke’s. Under the direction of former American Ballet Theatre and Bolshoi Ballet star David Hallberg\, The Australian Ballet returns to New York for its first full-length engagement since 2012. \nOscar© is a “trailblazing masterpiece” (Australian Arts Review) that brings the life and writings of brilliant humorist Oscar Wilde to the stage in the first story ballet of this scale to center gay relationships. Imprisoned in 1895 England\, Wilde revisits the glittering world he once inhabited—his fame\, his love affairs\, and ultimately his downfall. These memories intertwine with his works\, The Nightingale and the Rose and The Picture of Dorian Gray\, creating a richly layered portrait of a visionary artist. \nOscar© anchors this season’s Artists at the Center series spotlighting David Hallberg\, with additional appearances by The Australian Ballet in the 2026 Fall for Dance Festival and a Studio 5 event. \nCasting and programming subject to change \nThe Australian Ballet photo by Daniel Boud \nOscar© by Christopher Wheeldon \nChoreography Christopher Wheeldon\nSynopsis by Christopher Wheeldon and Joby Talbot based on an original idea by Alexander Wise and Christopher Wheeldon\nComposer Joby Talbot\nPublished by Chester Music Ltd\nStage and Costume Design Jean-Marc Puissant\nLighting Design Jon Goldman\nVideo Design David Bergman\nAssistant to the Choreographer Jason Fowler\nDesign Associate Sukie Kirk \nFeaturing Orchestra of St. Luke’s \nChristopher Wheeldon’s Oscar© includes extracts from Neil McKenna’s book\, The Secret Life of Oscar Wilde\, copyright Neil McKenna\, with kind permission from the author. \nWorld premiere September 13\, 2024\, Regent Theatre\, Melbourne\, The Australian Ballet. \nRun Time \nApprox. 2 hours and 15 minutes with one intermission

SUMMARY:Beethoven’s “Kreutzer” Sonata with Rita Dove
DESCRIPTION:Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and former U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove joins violinist Jesse Mills and pianist Rieko Aizawa for Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 9\, the “Kreutzer.” A work of unusual scale and intensity\, the sonata stands among Beethoven’s most ambitious chamber compositions\, with a dramatic sweep and a strikingly equal partnership between violin and piano. Dove reads excerpts from Sonata Mulattica\, her poetry collection on the violinist George Bridgetower\, to whom the work was originally dedicated. Mills\, a two-time Grammy-nominated violinist\, and Aizawa\, an internationally active soloist and chamber musician\, bring long experience to this landmark score.

SUMMARY:Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique
DESCRIPTION:Louis Langrée leads Orchestra of St. Luke’s in an all-Berlioz program culminating in Symphonie fantastique\, the composer’s vivid and wildly imaginative orchestral showpiece. The Guardian praised Langrée’s interpretation for its “ferocious intensity\,” calling his performance of the work “thrillingly realized.”Acclaimed tenor Benjamin Bernheim\, hailed as “simply stunning” by Le Monde and praised by Süddeutsche Zeitung for “the most beautiful tenor voice since Luciano Pavarotti\,” joins OSL for Les nuits d’été (Summer Nights)\, Berlioz’s song cycle setting six poems by Théophile Gautier.
