This year, OSL’s Music in Color concert celebrates the music of Eleanor Alberga. Born in Jamaica and currently based in the UK, the emotional range of her musical language, her structural clarity and a fabulously assured technique as an orchestrator have drawn high praise on an international level.

OSL presents free concerts throughout New York City to engage new audiences with classical music through dynamic concerts and multidisciplinary programs designed to be as entertaining as they are educational.

OSL’s 2019 Music in Color program spotlights the life, music, and continually evolving career of Jamaican composer Eleanor Alberga. Born in Kingston and educated at the Royal Academy of Music, Alberga is a prolific composer in nearly every genre, from opera and choral works to pieces for both chamber ensembles and full orchestras. Her works are commonly played throughout the UK and Europe, with performances and recordings by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, among others. The Imagination of Eleanor Alberga is the touchstone of OSL’s 2019 Free Community Concerts series, and will include Jamaican Medley and the North American premiere of Alberga’s Shining Gate of Morpheus for horn and string quartet. Performances will include narration by playwright and performer Kirya Traber.
