Xingyue Song

Xingyue Song is a Chinese composer whose music explores the intersection of sound, space, and memory. Through contemporary compositional techniques, she creates immersive sonic environments that transform listeners’ perception of place while preserving, evoking, and reimagining human memory.

Song has received commissions and grants from the ARTZenter Institute, through its partnership with the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, as well as from Luna Composition Lab, River & Rail Theatre, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She previously served as Composer-in-Residence with San Francisco Choral Artists. Her music has been featured at the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival and selected for performance at the China International Choral Festival. Her works have also been performed by ensembles including the Telegraph Quartet and Friction Quartet. She is the recipient of the Kristen Pankonin Award and was a semi-finalist for the 2024 Zemlinsky Prize.

Song is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Composition at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where she studies with Felipe Lara. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Mason Bates.
