Alex Rosen

American bass Alex Rosen has built longstanding partnerships with many of the world’s foremost ensembles, including Pygmalion, Il Pomo d’Oro, Jupiter Ensemble, and Les Arts Florissants. A frequent collaborator with leading conductors such as Raphaël Pichon, Leonardo García Alarcón, William Christie, and Jonathan Cohen, he is a sought-after artist across both opera and concert stages.

This season he embarks on four major tours: Handel’s Theodora (Valens) with Jupiter Ensemble; two tours of Bach’s St Matthew Passion – one with Pygmalion, and the other with Arcangelo; and Handel’s Giulio Cesare (Achilla) with Il Pomo d’Oro. He makes a notable house and role debut at Opéra national de Paris as Bembo in Ercole Amante and returns to Festival d’Aix-en-Provence for staged performances of Mozart’s Requiem.

Additional concert engagements include Haydn’s The Creation with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne. He also reprises his role in Philip Venables’ We Are The Lucky Ones at Ruhrtriennale Festival of the Arts and Tiroler Festspiele Erl.

Recent engagements included role debuts as Giove in Festival d’Aix-en-Provence‘s La Calisto and as Eight in the world premiere of Philip Venables’ We Are The Lucky Ones at Dutch National Opera. He made two house debuts; Haydn’s Die Schöpfung (Raphael) at Opera Köln and Handel’s Ariodante (King of Scotland) at Opéra national du Rhin. He returned to Il Pomo d’Oro for a European tour of Alcina (Melisso) and to Nederlandse Reisopera in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea (Seneca).

Other career highlights include Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria at Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, The Cunning Little Vixen at Detroit Opera and Handel’s Semele with Opera Philadelphia. On the concert platform, Alex has toured with Les Arts Florissants performing St John Passion, with Pygmalion in Mozart’s Requiem, and performed Honegger’s Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher with the Berliner Philharmoniker. Rosen is a graduate of The Juilliard School. He was awarded the Prix Gabriel Dussurget 2025 from Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. A passionate recitalist, Rosen earned Second Prize at the 2018 International Hugo Wolf Academy Competition alongside his frequent collaborator Michał Biel. Together, they are laureates of the Royaumont Foundation’s Art Song Academy.
