Monica Ellis

Monica Ellis is a founding member of the revolutionary, Grammy nominated wind quintet, Imani Winds, who in their 24th season maintains a vigorous touring schedule domestically and internationally.

A natural leader, she is the administrative and financial director for Imani Winds, Co- Artistic Director for the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival, and board member/treasurer for the Imani Winds Foundation. Ms. Ellis studied with Mark Pancerev, of the Pittsburgh Symphony, George Sakakeeny at Oberlin Conservatory (BM), and Frank Morelli at both The Juilliard School (MM) and Manhattan School of Music (PS).

Ms. Ellis is an active NYC freelancer, performing and recording with dozens of ensembles over the past 25 years. She is on the faculty of Manhattan School of Music, and as a renowned clinician, has given solo performances and masterclasses around the country.

She is a frequent commentator on discussions dealing with critical issues of race, gender and entrepreneurship in classical music. Advisory board memberships include the Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition, Orchestra of St. Luke’s Education and IDRS Commissioning Committees, and she is a board member of Concert Artists Guild.
