Cellist Susan Mandel’s diverse interests have led to a career focused in new music and collaboration. 2017-18 season highlights include performances at (le) Poisson Rouge, Playstation Theater, Brooklyn Steel, Brooklyn Bowl, Rockwood Music Hall, Webster Hall, Highline Ballroom, and The Firehouse Space. This season alone, she has performed with major label artists including eminem, Skylar Grey, Pharoahe Monch, Alicia Keys, Amine, gnash, and Tori Kelly on NBC’s Today Show, Saturday Night Live, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
As an avid chamber musician with passion for contemporary music, Susan has performed with some of New York City’s most accomplished artists. She has performed regularly and recorded with artists such as composers Matt Davis and Joey Contreras, singer/songwriters Amy Vachal, and Jihae Kim. Susan has also appeared regularly with Brooklyn Orchestra, LoftOpera, and the Chelsea Symphony. She is an active musician in Broadway and off-Broadway pits including principal players on Rocktopia, and beginning July 20, Pretty Woman at Nederlander Theater.
Susan is a graduate of New York University for both her Bachelors and Masters degrees where she pursued a combination degree in Performance and Entertainment Business Administration. Her extensive administrative experience includes development and marketing work at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Concert Artists Guild. She is a current faculty member with the Youth Orchestra of St. Luke’s and The Dream Unfinished activist orchestra and is a member of the Lincoln Center Student Advisory Council.
