Xingyue Song

Xingyue Song is a Chinese emerging composer and pianist who seeks to explore new sonic landscapes while maintaining a delicate balance between innovative techniques and accessibility. Through a constant search for beauty in sound, Xingyue strives to push boundaries without losing the connection to the listener. She believes music is the most universal language, capable of bridging differences and fostering deeper connections.

Recently, she received the 9th annual Kristen Pankonin Award and was commissioned to compose an art song cycle from SFCM. She also received commission from Luna composition lab & River + Rail theatre, attended the Bowdoin International Music Festival, and was selected as student of Bahlest Eeble Readings program at the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music. She was the semi-finalist of the Zemlinsky Prize 2024, served as composer in residence for SF Choral Artist. and participated in OAcademy. Her music was performed by Telegraph quartet, Friction quartet, the Hub New Music, International Orange Chorale etc. Those collaborations continually inspire her exploration of connecting others with music. 

Xingyue is currently pursuing a master’s degree in composition at the Peabody Institute with Felipe Lara and holds a bachelor’s degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Mason Bates. She has also received guidance from Xingzimin Pan, Derek Bermel, and Andreia Pinto Correia.
