Yeeun Sim (b.2002) is a Korean composer and pianist who is currently based in New York city. She aims to create various musical atmospheres, inspired by nature, paintings, books, and imaginative spaces to draw emotions from her audience. Yeeun’s main objective as a musician is conveying her messages through her music while considering its influence for diverse audiences.
As a composer who actively focuses on collaboration, she has worked with prominent ensembles such as Hub New Music, Tacet(i) Ensemble, Neave Trio, Mivos Quartet, The Rhythm Method, TAK Ensemble, Ensemble TIMF, and Ensemble Modern. Yeeun is always grateful for the experience of collaborating with different musicians and colleagues. She participated in many festivals and programs, such as the RED NOTE New Music Workshop, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival New Music Workshop, Brevard Summer Music Festival, Connecticut Summerfest, VIPA, Lake George Music Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival, and Tongyeong International Music Festival Academy.
Yeeun has earned her bachelor’s degree in Composition at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, studying with Kevin Puts. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Composition at the Juilliard School under the guidance of David Serkin Ludwig. Her other mentors include Alyssa Weinberg, Joel Puckett, and more.
