Mozart was well-known in his time for his remarkable genius as well as his exuberant, one-of-a-kind personality. But Mozart did not limit his spontaneous, charismatic nature to his tumultuous personal life, he also poured it into his music. This all-Mozart program features two beloved pieces that reflect the composer’s flamboyant personality. Written in 1779, Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola, K. 364, his only complete surviving work in the genre remarkably energetic work, performed on this concert in an equally virtuosic arrangement for string sextet, dating from the 1800s. Mozart wrote the Clarinet Quintet in A Major as a showpiece for his friend Anton Stadler, giving the clarinetist the opportunity to dazzle and shine.
