Schubert with Liv Redpath and George Li
Part of: Chamber Music Series
Among the music performed by St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble in 1974 at the Church of St. Luke’s in Greenwich Village was Schubert’s Der Hirt auf dem Felson (The Shepherd on the Rock). The Ensemble revisits that perennial favorite and other chamber works drawn from 50 years of auspicious music making in this performance. Soprano Liv Redpath, hailed as possessing “such a radiant voice, effortless even in the highest register with breathtaking coloratura, the likes of which have not been heard for a long time” (Berliner Umschau) has quickly become a versatile presence on opera stages around the world, with major orchestras, and in recital. She performs songs by Grieg and Schubert, joined by longtime friend and collaborator, pianist George Li, Silver Medal winner at the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition for The Shepherd on the Rock and Fauré’s La Bonne Chanson. Mozart’s Trio in E-flat major for Clarinet, Viola, and Piano rounds out an evening celebrating the Ensemble’s history while looking toward the future.
