“With the ferocious intensity of Louis Langrée’s performance … Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique sounds like one of the most modern pieces in the repertoire … thrillingly realized,” says The Guardian. This evening, Langrée conducts the versatile Orchestra of St. Luke’s in Berlioz’s delirious masterpiece and other works. World-renowned lyric tenor Benjamin Bernheim—called “the most beautiful tenor voice since Luciano Pavarotti” by Süddeutsche Zeitung and “simply stunning” by Le Monde—performs as soloist in the song cycle Les nuis d’été (Summer Nights). The concert opens with Berlioz’s popular, first orchestral work: the surviving overture from his discarded opera Les francs-juges.
