Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique

Louis Langrée leads Orchestra of St. Luke’s in an all-Berlioz program culminating in Symphonie fantastique, the composer’s vivid and wildly imaginative orchestral showpiece. The Guardian praised Langrée’s interpretation for its “ferocious intensity,” calling his performance of the work “thrillingly realized.”Acclaimed tenor Benjamin Bernheim, hailed as “simply stunning” by Le Monde and praised by Süddeutsche Zeitung for “the most beautiful tenor voice since Luciano Pavarotti,” joins OSL for Les nuits d’été (Summer Nights), Berlioz’s song cycle setting six poems by Théophile Gautier. The concert opens with Berlioz’s popular, first orchestral work: the surviving overture from his discarded opera Les francs-juges.
