Danced with unbridled joy and energy, Mercuric Tidings showcases young individuals cavorting with the kinetic propensities of young godlets. Taylor’s choreography captures the sheer pleasure and poetry of movement, creating a dynamic and exuberant dance piece.
Set to the music of Ralph Vaughan Williams, Taylor’s Eventide reaches sublime heights in this paean to remembered love. Couples embrace an unknown future while looking back, blending bittersweetness with optimism and upliftment.
Inspired by the simple act of a girl running to catch a bus, Paul Taylor created Esplanade in 1975, a masterpiece based on pedestrian movement. Set to J.S. Bach’s music, the dance celebrates ordinary movements like standing, walking, running, sliding, and falling. By using these “found movements,” Taylor showcases the beauty and expressive power of everyday actions, making the audience appreciate the grace in the seemingly mundane.
