Orchestra of St. Luke’s and The Streicker Center’s Composers of Note series begins with two new chamber works, Dawn of a New Day and Duplicity, which were co-commissioned by Orchestra of St. Luke’s and the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music. Matthew Evan Taylor’s Dawn of a New Day vividly creates atmosphere through sound. Anjna  Swaminathan’s Duplicity fuses the melodies and rhythms of South Indian classical music with the Western classical string quartet form. The works are paired together with Beethoven’s String Quintet, Op. 29, the composer’s only work for string quintet. Beethoven’s piece recalls Mozart’s string quintets while looking ahead to the establishment of his own revolutionary style.
