The final concert in the Composers of Note series at The Streicker Center puts the majestic cello front and center with a beloved classic by Schubert and a recent composition by the celebrated contemporary composer Eleanor Alberga. Written in 2015 for the cellist Robert Irvine, Alberga’s Ride Through for solo cello takes its inspiration from a Jamaican nursery rhyme. In his String Quintet in C Major, Schubert expands the sonority of the string quartet by adding a second cello, thereby expanding the warmth and sonority of the piece.
